About Big Ed’s:

Big Ed’s was founded in 1958 by Big Ed Watkins, a native of Wake County. His family’s farm produced tobacco and other crops. It is there that Big Ed developed the recipes used in his restaurants by helping his mother in the kitchen preparing meals for the farm workers. Big Ed’s opened in 1989 in the Downtown City Market in conjunction with the city of Raleigh’s revitalization project.

We continue the tradition of serving the best in Southern cooking at our two Raleigh locations. Join us for a Southern-style meal at breakfast or lunch, cooked to order using fresh and local products. Come in, kick back and look around at our museum of Southern culture.

You can enjoy Big Ed’s at two locations: our original restaurant at 220 Wolfe Street and our new location at 5009 Falls of the Neuse Road at Quail Corners Shopping Center.
